High-resolution electrical characterization of RuO2-borosilicate glass composites

چکیده
RuO2-borosilicate glass composites representing nuclear glasses show a sudden increase in electrical conductivity when the RuO2 content reached concentration of around 1% volume. This percolation threshold is astonishingly low compared to geometrical threshold, i.e. 15%, considering random distribution phases. Herein, electrostatic force microscopy (EFM) analyses were used investigate this anomalous behavior by performing local dielectric characterization that comprised clusters precipitated particles and "apparently” RuO2-free borosilicate regions. As expected, differences between relative permittivity two zones, matrix, particles, found. Most interesting, sensitivity EFM technique combined with numerical modeling based on finite element method revealed matrix was enhanced overall content. Such an can be explained enrichment RuO2, which increases due its much higher electronic polarizability. The could play role conduction mechanism, changing effective volume conductive medium and, therefore, decreasing minimal phase necessary for percolation.

متن کاملStructure of Rhenium-Containing Sodium Borosilicate Glass
A series of sodium borosilicate glasses were synthesized with KReO4 or Re2O7, to 10,000 ppm (1 mass%) target Re, to assess effects of large concentrations of rhenium on glass structure and fto estimate solubility of Tc, a radioactive component in low active waste nuclear glasses. Rhenium was used as a surrogate for Tc for laboratory testing, due to similarities in chemistry, ionic size, and red...

متن کاملInscription and characterization of waveguides written into borosilicate glass by a high-repetition-rate femtosecond laser at 800 nm.
A series of waveguides was inscribed in a borosilicate glass (BK7) by an 11 MHz repetition rate femtosecond laser operating with pulse energies from 16 to 30 nJ and focused at various depths within the bulk material. The index modification was measured using a quantitative phase microscopy technique that revealed central index changes ranging from 5 x 10(-3) to 10(-2), leading to waveguides tha...
